"I loved my role.
Very offbeat, like a French film."
- Lee Remick
"Lee Remick fills
the bill precisely as a beautiful but dumb young wife."
New York Times - April 4, 1958
BACKSTORY
Seven weeks after her marriage to William Colleran, Lee flew to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to film The Long Hot Summer. Being very homesick for her new husband, Lee would sneak away to the airport on alternate Friday nights and fly home to New York to join her husband for breakfast, returning Monday morning in time to report to the set.
Once Lee finished filming The Long Hot Summer, she and Bill left for a three month honeymoon in Italy. "We got ourselves the smallest-sized Fiat and drove all over Sicily for a couple of weeks," Lee explained. "We lived in a pensione, one of those small hotels. And it was only the beginning, really. Because after that we grew more and more in love – something I didn't imagine possible – and we were happier still."
It was while on her honeymoon in Italy that Lee become pregnant with Katherine Lee Colleran, who was born on January 27, 1959.
