"I saw 'Face' recently and it's just wonderful! The story is powerful as hell! And what a cast: Andy (Griffith), of course, is brilliant and Pat (Patricia Neal) and (Walter) Matthau are golden! Gadge (Kazan) taught me a great deal."

"Remick is so striking, that it's a wonder she wasn't typecast as a sexpot."

BACKSTORY

After three months of study at Barnard college, Lee left school and concentrated on her work as an actress.

"This is the way it happened," she remembered. "I did a part on the Robert Montgomery Presents show a year ago last May (1956) called All Expenses Paid. It was really a silly little story, but it was wonderful for me because I starred opposite Lee Bowman and had a part that had everything but the kitchen sink, dramatically: humor, pathos, everything.

The next day I called my telephone answering service to ask if there were any messages. Mr. Kazan had seen me on the show and wanted me to read for the part in A Face in the Crowd. So that phone call was the start of a whole new life."
